CHAVO GUERRERO Sr.

Chavo in His Own Words ( Part 1 )

Amateur Background in Wrestling

I wrestled in high school, in college, coached wrestling for three years , and then turned pro. I was the

Sunbowl Champion and the Western Athletic Champion. I was 6th in the nation for the NCAA. (1981)

Before a Match

I like to play my guitar in my dressing room before matches. The music helps me to relax,

and it puts me in a proper frame of mind for the upcoming match. (1976)

Best Five Wrestlers

Wahoo McDaniel has got to be one of them ; Terry Funk, Dory Funk,

Bruno Sammartino who I have a lot of respect for, and Verne Gagne. (1981)

Death Matches

I don't like them. I have been in many of them, and I still don't like them, in spite of the fact that I know

how to win. Death matches have no place in wrestling. They should have been banned long ago. (1982)

Dream in my childhood

I just wanted to be a wrestler. I never wanted to be a fireman, a cowboy, Hopalong Cassidy,

Superman or Spiderman. I always wanted to be a wrestler. That was it. (2004)

Early Days

I started in Los Angeles and I guess I was just there at the right time at the right place and I was prepared

well. I was wrestling people like Terry Funk, Dory Funk, and Ernie Ladd. And that's where you get your

experience. I just learned from them and saw my films over and over. The competition was always good

there and then I started traveling all over the country. I've been to MSG, Shea Stadium, Orange Bowl in

Miami, I've been to Houston, Amarillo, Dallas, Arizona, Oregon and California. Just say ALL OVER ! (1981)

Eddie Guerrero

I'm very proud of him. I think he's good not only to the Guerrero name, but to WWE

and of course to El Paso and to the rest of the world.

He's probably, by far, one of the best entertainers and wrestlers that there is.

You can be an entertainer and not know how to wrestle. Or know how to wrestle but not

to be an entertainer. But Eddie surely is probably one of the top wrestlers and entertainers,

in my opinion, of course. ( 2003 )

Fans

A lot of the wrestlers don't care what the fans think about them. As long as they're winning most

of their matches and making good money, that's all that matters to them. But I'm not like that.

It's very important for me to know that the fans are behind me all the way, that they care about me.

They mean a great deal to me and that's why I always try to take time to sign autographs, posed for

pictures, and chat with them about wrestling. As far as I can remember, I've always been quite

popular with the fans, I hope it stays that way because they're a big inspiration to me. (1980)

Favorite Areas

I try to enjoy all the areas as much as I can. You know I try to meet different people and

I like what I am doing, wrestling. I guess if I had to pick an area, I would say here in San Antonio,

Los Angeles and Mexico, too. Here everyone just makes me feel at home. (1981)

Gory Guerrero

My dad was a three time world champion in lightweight, middleweight and light heavyweight, and

I was always going to be under his shadow. But in another way it gave me that much more will-power

and determination. It became a challenge to me to overcome that, and I think I've done it. (1981)

Hector Guerrero

Hector is a damned good wrestler, but he is younger and still has a few things to learn.

Don't get me wrong ; he's a tough guy and he won't be pushed around. He gets mad in the ring

and wants to break a few arms or legs. I'd hate to get in a street fight with him. (1980)

Hobbies

I like all kinds of sports. Mostly I like to water ski. I like to hunt, but water skiing is the tops. (1981)
